Preparing for PitchFest

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

*Use the buttons on the right to print the Agent/Editor list and bring it with you to PitchFest 2019.

Sixty top-ranked professionals looking for new clients have committed to listen to your pitches on July 11th from 2:00 – 4:30 pm with some of them staying on until 5:30 pm.

Here’s the current list of the 2019 Participating Agents

The professionals are so excited to meet great writers like you that we now have a waiting list for agents and editors to join the top-ranked professionals looking for new clients at PitchFest.  So please be prepared to meet them.  Pointers for preparing for PitchFest July 11th 2:00 – 5:30 pm ET

Before Attending PitchFest

  • Complete that manuscript, and make sure it’s ready to submit.
  • Prioritize who you want to make sure and see for pitching, because it is highly unlikely you’ll be able to see as many as you’d like in the short afternoon.
  • Check the link to 2019 Participating Agents just before the event to confirm the agents you want to visit will still be attending and make any necessary adjustments to your plan.
  • Think about what’s most important to share in the 3 minutes you’ll have with the agent. Don’t forget to make it a conversation.  You should ask questions as well.  This person will be representing your interests.

 At PitchFest

  • Only give agents or editors a business card.
  • From a courtesy and decorum perspective, please understand the following expectations I have for you with the agents and editors…
    • Keep your pitch and discussion with the agent or editor to 3 minutes. We are giving them timers but we expect you to be professional enough to stay within your allotted time.
    • Keep discussions with others in line to a whisper to give agents and editors the best opportunity to hear whoever is at their table.

After PitchFest

  • For those of you attending ThrillerFest, we invite the agents and editors to the opening reception and you’re more than welcome to buy them a drink, if you’re so inclined.
  • Responding and communicating with agents and editors is critical.
    • If the agents or editors give you instructions to send something to them, please do so in a timely and courteous manner as instructed. Deciding to wait weeks and months to “polish” your manuscript before sending it to them after a request is a huge turnoff to most agents and editors.
    • If you haven’t heard from them in 2-3 months after your submittal, feel free to reach out to them again. Remember, they probably met several great writers at this event and have to make time to read all of the submittals they request.  We have asked them to be courteous and respond to you, even if the news is bad for you.
  • Make plans to join us in 2020. This is all about networking and being remembered by an agent or editor so take their advice and come back again next year.

For those of you attending CraftFest, take advantage of “Discover How To Pitch Your Manuscript” with Kathleen Antrim and John Land Wednesday night from 5:30 – 6:15 pm.

For all of you, attend Practice PitchFest 12:15 Noon – 1:45 pm the day of the event to get some last minute advice from wonderful authors and special agents.  At Practice PitchFest, you will line up outside Ballroom I on the floor above the Conference Level at 12:00pm, giving the ThrillerFest staff time to organize the room.  The participating authors and agents will be organized in alphabetical order.  Choose which two you’d like to use your tickets for, and then join that line.  Attendees can only pitch TWO people person at Practice PitchFest, and you’ll need to hand them the ticket that will be in your registration packet.  After you finish at Practice PitchFest, you can line up for PitchFest.
